Disney Publishing Worldwide Announces Multi-Book Deal for Young Adult Period Drama Series "At Somerton"

Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW) has announced a three-book young adult series "At Somerton." Published through its Disney-Hyperion book imprint, the series was conceptually developed in-house by Emily Meehan, executive editor, Disney Publishing Worldwide. English author Leila Rasheed, who is represented by Sarah Davies at Greenhouse Literary, will write the books.

Set initially in 1910 England, the series beings when the prominent Averly family returns to their ancestral estate, Somerton Court, amid a scandal. The household staff must prepare for a sudden wedding that will unite two of the most powerful families in England. Gossip, revenge, and romance flourishes between the Averly teenagers and their teenage servants. Cinders & Sapphires, the first book in the series, will be published in January 2013, with the next two to follow at ten month intervals.

"We've all been swept up in the current craze for period dramas," said Suzanne Murphy, vice president and publisher, Disney Publishing Worldwide. "Emily Meehan has combined her love of the genre with her keen instincts for publishing stories that today's teens devour. 'At Somerton' has all the sigh- and gasp-inducing moments that will leave teens breathless for the next installment and Leila Rasheed is the perfect author to write it."
