Christoph Waltz steps into 'Muppets' sequel
Waltz would have a starring role in the film, playing an Interpol inspector in the as-of-yet unnamed “The Muppets 2.” Or at least as much a starring role as a human can have in any Muppets movie.
Waltz, who won an Oscar for his supporting role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” will next appear in the director’s “Django Unchained.”
At first glance, Waltz might appear to be an odd choice. But those who have seen the actor’s work in Tarantino’s films know Waltz knows how to both underplay a performance and chew the scenery.
Both skills will be necessary if he shares screen time with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and, yes, Walter. The newest Muppet is slated to return, although how large his role will be has not yet been revealed.
The casting news, with its hint of movie plot points, fits with previous information from scriptwriter Nicholas Stoller and that he and director-writer James Bobin were planning a comedy caper for the next film in Disney’s reboot of the franchise. "It is a comedy caper" Possible Summer 2013 Release.
