RIP Lucille Martin, assistant to Disney, Eisner dies
RIP Lucille Martin, a former VP and special assistant to the Disney Co. board of directors who started at the company as a personal secretary to Walt Disney, died due to complications from cancer Oct. 24 in Studio City, Calif. She was 90.
Martin serving as executive assistant to two Disney CEOs, Ron Miller and Michael Eisner, in addition to Walt Disney. In 1995, she was promoted to VP and special assistant to the Disney board, serving as a liaison between it and the company. She held that post until her retirement in 2006. The next year, the company inducted her as a "Disney Legend."
Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger said: "Lucille's compassion, dedication and love for Disney are what made her such a valued colleague, treasured friend and Disney Legend. She will be greatly missed."
Martin joined the secretarial pool at the Walt Disney Studios in 1964. The single mother of two girls soon found herself assigned to Walt Disney's office, where she became part of his inner circle during the last year of his life.
Martin worked in Walt Disney's office over a two-year period. After his death in 1966, she became an executive assistant to Ron Miller as he ascended to president of the company and later CEO. In 1984, incoming CEO Eisner asked her to stay on to assist him.
