El Capitan Theatre: Home to Past, Present and Future Disney
Whether you live in L.A. or just like to visit, seeing a show at the El Capitan Theatre should be on your list. The El Cap, as we call it, sits right in the heart of Hollywood and welcomes guests for a uniquely Disney moviegoing experience. It’s also a unique part of our Studio business.
The El Cap hosts first-run Disney, Pixar and Marvel feature films – and it’s the site of many of our high-profile red-carpet premieres such as Marvel’s The Avengers and Wreck-It Ralph. Moviegoers at the El Cap are treated to a themed pre-movie show and can often explore art, props and costumes from the featured film in the downstairs lounge.
When a new film isn’t playing, there’s no shortage of exciting events and exclusive engagements. The El Capitan provides an opportunity for fans to see many of our classic films as they were meant to be seen on the big screen.
Right now, we’re celebrating the 60th anniversary release of the beloved animated classic Peter Pan. The show runs through February 7 and kicked off this month with a special panel discussion with Kathryn Beaumont, who voiced Wendy; Margaret Kerry, the live-action reference model for Tinker Bell; and Ted Thomas, son of legendary Captain Hook animator Frank Thomas.
Another famous Disney pirate, Jake from Disney Junior’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates, is on hand to premiere a never-before-seen episode of the Disney Junior show before each screening.
Earlier this year, Tink fans got a chance to see the latest Fairies film Secret of the Wings in 3D ahead of its debut on Blu-ray. And before Oz The Great and Powerful swirls into the El Cap in March, we’ll have special engagements of Mulan and Lady and the Tramp. We also host Throwback Thursdays, asking our Facebook fans to vote for the Disney films they’d most like to see – and then we show it.
The El Capitan is the only movie theater owned and operated by Disney, and there’s truly nothing else like it. Just remember, no trip would be complete without a stop at the Disney Soda Fountain next door. Nothing tops off a great film like a hot fudge sundae.
