John Williams To Score Star Wars: Episode VII

Team Star Trek Into Darkness has been making the global rounds helping to promote the sequel, stopping in such places as Australia and Germany as they prep for the London press junket that’s happening this weekend. And even though J.J. Abrams is fielding a ton of Trek questions, he’s deflecting an equal amount of Star Wars: Episode VII questions, refusing to give up any information … until now.

During a Berlin press conference captured on TrekMovie.com, which you can watch above (if you don’t mind the cast talking at length about a sequel you might not have seen yet), Abrams reveals – right around the seven-minute mark – that he plans to bring composer John Williams back into the fold for Star Wars, instead of his longtime collaborator Michael Giacchino. Abrams raved about Giacchino’s brilliance, and rightfully so. But the director confirms that Williams will be scoring the eventual Star Wars sequel “because apparently he was there long before I was.”

That’s funny, but also a little bittersweet. Part of me really wanted to see what Giacchino could bring to a fresh Star Wars universe. It’s similar to a story we ran earlier about Hans Zimmer getting a crack at Man of Steel, trying to distance the imagery of Superman from Williams’ admittedly iconic score.

At the same time, Wiliams and Star Wars go hand in hand, and if he’s willing to come back to score Episode VII, then I understand why Abrams would welcome him with open arms (though the way he presents it, it almost makes it sounds like this is something he was told was going to happen, whether he wanted it or not). So yes, it sounds like Williams is on board for Star Wars.

Filming Captain America Sequel - New Pictures!

Pictures of Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans filming the Captain America sequel! Scarlett Johansson has has red hair and Chris Evans is pushing a man over. Unbelievable scenes, Jeff!

In some of the pics, you can see Scarlett's stunt double. So that's interesting. Is it? We don't know. It is a bit interesting, because if you just glance, it creates an interesting optical illusion where there's actually two Scarlett Johanssons or something. Look, we don't know.

Captain America: Winter Soldier is due for release next year at some point. Judging from these pictures, we can see there is a lot of bright green going on. Great stuff.

Disney Publishing Worldwide globally collaboration with Lilly Diabetes

New educational resources will be available soon for families of children with type 1 diabetes.

Lilly Diabetes today announced the global expansion of its innovative collaboration with Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW), which expands the program internationally based on the success of the initiative in the U.S., which began in 2011. The goal of the program is to bring thoughtful educational resources to families of children with diabetes, including a series of custom books co-created by Lilly Diabetes and DPW for children of various ages and stages of life who are living with type 1 diabetes. The books, available through diabetes healthcare professionals, will initially be translated and available in 18 countries.

"Lilly Diabetes' objective is to bring safety, health, comfort and a bit of magic to children worldwide," said Andrew Hodge , vice president, International, Lilly Diabetes. "We saw the positive impact our collaboration with Disney Publishing Worldwide had on families living with type 1 diabetes in the U.S. over the last two years, and we are excited to expand our reach globally."

Nearly 500,000 young people worldwide are living with type 1 diabetes, and an estimated 78,000 are diagnosed each year.[1] From the moment of diagnosis to the day-in, day-out management of the disease, the challenges of living with the disease can be overwhelming for children and their families. People with type 1 diabetes must follow a structured self-management regimen that includes a balance of medication, physical activity and a healthy diet.  "Diabetes in the Young." Adapted from: International Diabetes Federation, IDF Diabetes Atlas. 2012. Available at: http://www.idf.org/diabetesatlas/5e/diabetes-in-the-young. Accessed 28 November 2012.

By expanding this collaboration, Lilly Diabetes and DPW hope to reach even more families who have been impacted by type 1 diabetes – emphasizing what they can do instead of what they can't do, and offering stories of familiar characters, such as Mickey Mouse and his friend Coco, the fun-loving monkey who has type 1 diabetes.

"We are excited to be part of this effort to bring informational material about type 1 diabetes to kids around the world who are living with the disease," said Andrew Sugerman , executive vice president, DPW. "Lilly Diabetes' expertise with the disease, combined with Disney's tradition of great storytelling, gives us an opportunity to inspire and motivate children and families with type 1 diabetes."

Star Wars Weekends 2013: Why is Disney Making Us Wait to Reveal Celebrity Guests

Since Star Wars Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios became an annual event in 2003 (it began in 1997 and was held in 2000 and 2001) I can't recall a time when fans waited so long to get the celebrity schedule from Disney. It makes it difficult for those fans, like myself, who live outside of Florida to plan travel to the Sunshine State.

Ashley Eckstein and Chewbacca share a moment during Star Wars Weekends.

This may be by design as Walt Disney World has been experiencing great attendance so far this year. There is also word that the House of Mouse will release the final celebrity schedule on STAR WARS DAY - May 4 (May the fourth be with you). Of course that is unconfirmed. All I know is that with the recent purchase of Lucasfilm by Disney this year should prove to be the biggest SWW yet!

Tentative Guest List for Star Wars Weekend 2013
Here's what we know so far... "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" voice actors James Arnold Taylor (voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi) will be your Celebrity Host for all 4 weekends while Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ashoka Tano) will be Celebrity Host of "Behind the Force", the live behind-the-scenes show giving fans a glimpse into the Star Wars Universe.

Other than Billy Dee Williams, the other actors listed below have posted on Facebook that they will be attending SWW this year, however it has not been confirmed by Disney at press time.

Weekend One 5/17-19
Ray Park, Dee Bradley Baker, Jeremy Bulloch

Weekend Two 5/24-26
Ray Park, Warwick Davis

Weekend Three 5/31-6/2
Warwick Davis

Weekend Four 6/7-9
Billy Dee Williams*, Peter Mayhew

I also hear that "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" supervising director Dave Filoni will also be making an appearance.

*Talent confirmed by Disney.

*UPDATE 5/5 - There was no announcement made on 5/4.

Disneyland's First President, Jack Lindquist, Pens Memoir "in Service To The Mouse."

Jack Lindquist began working for the The Walt Disney Company as the park's first advertising manager when he was 28 back in 1955, just two months after Disneyland opened. Keeping a journal would have been a wonderful idea had Jack been able to foresee the exciting 38-year journey ahead as Disneyland's first president, a role he never expected. Over 55 years later he still remembers fondly the highs and lows of an unexpected career working with the most famous mouse in town.

In Service To The Mouse chronicles Jack Lindquist 's successes and humorous mistakes climbing the corporate ladder as the world's most famous amusement park unfolds as an integral part of Americana history. Known as one of the most creative and knowledgeable marketing men of this century, Jack Lindquist 's memoir includes more than 60 chapters, each its own individual and unique story of his many experiences with The Walt Disney Company. A well-known maverick, Jack Lindquist is credited with creating many of the unique marketing programs and special entertainment events that have made Disney attractions around the globe so successful.

Mr. Lindquist contributes the success of In Service To The Mouse to the collaborative effort and partnership with Melinda J. Combs , who endured over 100 hours of taping and transcribing his Disney career before creating the finalized form. A four-year endeavor in the making, Ms. Combs brilliantly captured Jack's story-telling charm and sharp-witted humor to compose the ultimate backstage peek of Disney in the making.

In Service To The Mouse is available for purchase through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kindle and Nook or direct at www.inservicetothemouse.com

Mr. Lindquist resides in Orange County, California with his wife Belle and is currently consulting on various projects, speaking to corporate groups around the United States and beginning to write his next memoir Before, During and After The Mouse. A 3-Day Charity Walk at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, a First of its Kind "Walk The World" Charity Walking Event, November 14-18, 2013

The Walk The World event, part of the A Walk Around The World – Fundraising Walking Event series ( https://www.awalkaroundtheworld.org ), is a walk-only fundraiser limited to 50 participants and takes place November 14-18, 2013. Over the course of three days, walkers will hit the sidewalks and walkways of the Walt Disney World Resort, averaging more than 10 miles a day, following a suggested journey through the resort's theme parks and other locations. The adventure will take them through resorts like Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, water parks like Disney's Blizzard Beach, and several of the famed theme parks, including the Magic Kingdom, where walkers will experience all the sites and attractions along the way, at their leisure. In addition, everyone will have a chance to enjoy group meals, activities, shows, fireworks and some special surprises, according to Robert Webber , president of For A Cause.

"There are so many die-hard Walt Disney World fans that are going to love the idea of visiting their favorite theme park while walking to raise money for their favorite charity," Webber says. "In years past, A Walk Around The World participants have traveled to castles in Europe and trekked miles throughout historical destinations, but this is the first time they'll be given a chance to visit Cinderella Castle and walk miles throughout a fantasy destination. It's going to be some serious fun — the Walk will be both magical and meaningful. If your feet get a little tired, you can just hop on one of the enchanted rides and take a break!"

The registration fee for Walk The World is $350 per person and includes lodging at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, group meals, and group theme park tickets. Single participants will be paired with a roommate, although single rooms are available for an extra charge. Walkers must be 14+ years old to participate. There is a minimum fundraising requirement for the charity of the participant's choice.

"As with all For A Cause events, Walk The World will put participants up in comfortable accommodations, offer excellent food, and an unforgettable experience — this time made possible by the extraordinary setting and fanfare at the world's most famous theme park and resort," Webber says.

A complete list of frequently asked questions pertaining to registration, lodging, and walk logistics is available at: https://awalkaroundtheworld.org/FAQ.html

C2E2 2013: Marvel Comics Day 2 - Age of Ultron, Angela in Guardian's of the Galaxy and More

HalloweenExpress.com

So because of some Bat-conflict attending the Q&A for Burt Ward and Julie Newmar, plus the higher influx of people filling up the rooms on Saturday I was only able to see for myself one comics-centric panel. But it did hold some cool information that I had not heard confirmed just yet at the Marvel: Age of Ultron panel.

Age of Ultron #10

It was reiterated that Age of Ultron would have lasting effect on the Marvel Universe. One of those effects will be in a new/old character making her Marvel debut.

Neil Gaiman and Angela

Angela, who's rights have very recently been fully awarded to its original creator, Neil Gaiman and then sold to Marvel will be making her Marvel comics debut. Angela, who first appeared in Spawn #9 for Image Comics, will make her debut in the Age of Ultron story. After that, expect to see much more of Angela starting with Guardians of the Galaxy #5, which will be co-written by her creator Neil Gaiman, also marking his first return to regular comic books in several years as her right were being tied up in courts.

Age of Ultron #10 A.I. cover.

In July, a new Avengers book will debut titled Avengers A.I. This book will feature The Vision, Monica Chang, a Dr Doom Doombot and a few other characters without a pulse and revolves around the question, can machines evolve without having constant human interaction?

So if you haven't been reading Age of Ultron, now maybe you have a couple more reason to be interested (other than it being a very interesting story already).

C2E2 2013: Day 1 from DC Comics

Yesterday I attended both the DC 101 panel and the DCU All Access panel here at C2E2 in Chicago. No groundbreaking new announcements were shared (maybe why DC didn't feel the need to have a booth at this year's Con), but for those that may be behind all the news stories, here's what they did let us know:

DC 1st annnouncement was that they have so far been able to raise $2 million dollars for the "We Can Be Heroes" campaign to help with poverty needs in the Horn of Africa. DC has matched dollar for dollar all funds donated by the fans and wanted to thank everyone for their money and participation. If you want to donate yourself or find out more information, including how you can get some free Batman merch for donating, check out this link here.

In case you weren't aware, the new Man of Steel movie will be in theaters June 14. And in case anyone hadn't seen the newest trailer, they showed it to us. I've added it below for you all to see too. You just might believe that a man can fly (again)!

For Free Comic Book Day this year DC will have 2 books available. One with Superman and Zod and one with the DC Nation's new Beware the Batman story. Don't miss Free Comic Book Day Saturday May 4!

Arrow had been renewed for a 2nd season on the CW. The Season 1 finale will debut May 15. Arrow digital-first comic is continuing to do well and has just started to begin a print run of the same stories.

Injustice: Gods Among Us game is out now and has been well received. The first issues of the comic based on the game are going back for extra prints. Also available in digital form. And there is a free phone App that ties into the game.

Teen Titans Go debuted this week and had great number in prime time for Cartoon Network. Beware the Batman will be coming later and will look to only feature the newer villains like Prof Pyg. Of course during the Q&A there were several fans voicing their displeasure on the canceling of Young Justice and Green Lantern animated series. DC's reply was never say never. Teen Titans was cancelled and brought back, so anything is possible.

May 21 will see the direct-to-video Lego Batman movie. If you've played the Lego Batman 2, then you've already seen the bulk of this movie from the game's cut scenes.

Batman '66 will be a new comic coming out this summer and is the first comic based on the Adam West Batman TV show. Look for the book to continue in the same campy feel as the original show. They even teased by saying Killer Croc, who never appeared on the show, will make an appearance and will have a look that's more man-in-a-rubber-suit than man who's part reptile. If you loved the show, you'll love this series.

If you missed any of the Before Watchmen books, in July we'll see the collections released in both HC and digital. On one panel, Len Wein, editor of the original Watchmen and overseer of the Before Watchmen series said he wished Ozymandias had come out last but a delay in the art caused Comedian to come out last. He also mentioned that he felt like he finally got a little closure of the disagreement he had with Alan Moore on the way the original Watchmen had ended in the final Ozymandias issue.

If you're are interested in reading some DC books, but don't know where to start, then the up coming DC Entertainment Essentials Graphic Novels and Chronology will be the book for you. It will be a free book/catalog to help you find more of what you want to read by giving you the top stories already published that would be considered must reads. The book will be out the summer.

The Q&A period mostly filled with the normal questions of where is Wally West and Stephanie Brown, why did you kill Damian, and can we get Young Justice back. You can tell these questions are getting old for them to non-answer, but they still didn't provide any questions other than 'maybe' and 'stay tuned'. However there were 2 questions that stood out:

The first asked if we will see a Crime Syndicate of America story or series (Earth 3 DC, where all good guys are bad and bad guys are good). Editor in Chief Bob Harris had to quickly bite his tongue and said to just wait for an announcement involving that next month. I have a feeling the door for them to enter the New 52 might open when the new Multiplicity series begins.

The 2nd question came from a young man asking why burn victims are only portrayed as villains. Being a severe burn victim himself he thought it would be awesome to see it on a hero instead of a driving motivation for evil. The panel concluded it to easy writing scapegoats and not thinking outside of the box for a story like that. But after meeting this man, it will be a reminder to try to do more o that.

So that wraps up Day 1 from DC. Stayed tuned for more from C2E2!

C2E2 2013: Marvel Panel Day 1 - ReEvolution Continues - Project Gamme, Marvel Unlimited, Infinite Comics and More

HalloweenExpress.com

At Marvel's Day 1 panel it was all about what they are adding to enhance your experience with Marvel and its characters, with some pretty cool things they presented. Some new, some already exist, and some with updates and tweaks coming soon. (Aljon's note - most of this information had been previously mentioned at SXSW 2013).

Being dubbed as Marvel ReEvolution, the comics giant is looking at bigger and better ways to bring digital and print together. They have no intention of looking to replace print, only enhancing it as well as enhancing the digital books to better fit the separate platform it utilizes.

Infinite comics
With Infinite Comics, Marvel is developing a digital comic specifically for the digital medium. Swiping from image to image helps to add a better storytelling flow that is hard to do by simple going panel to panel like in most digital comics or print comics. It's not animation, it's still like a comic that is trying to do things that can't be done with print. Available now to try online is a Guardians of Galaxy Infinite comic available for free.

Digital Comics Unlimited
The renamed Marvel Unlimited subscription has alreadystarted to integrate mobile iOS devices to make it easier to take your comics with you on the go, as well as on your computer. Android users, don't feel left out as your app will be coming very soon.

Marvel AR
The Marvel AR app will continue to add behind-the-scenes or awesome extras to the books your already buying. The panel compared it to this generation's Stan's Soapbox in how it pulls back the curtain and allow everyone to have some fun. You can get the Marvel AR app for free now on all smart phone devices.

Project: Gamma
In a way to integrate music and sound effects into your story Marvel is introducing Project: Gamma. Much like what is used in video games it is adaptive audio that does not loop and changes as you swipe thru your digital comic's story. Hear the Hulk punch Wolverine with the proper musical score playing to set up the mood of the big fight!

Marvel Original Content and Videos Online
If you haven't been keeping up with The Watcher and Marvel Superheroes: What The--?!, then go check them out free on YouTube. Adding to that content will be a new show titled Earth's Mightiest Show with former G4 TV host Blair Butler. The new web based show will cover comics and pop culture and not just from the what Marvel has coming out next. Look for this new show to start this summer.

When asked why they are doing so much outside of the books, including numerous social media sites they simply answered was: How can we get our characters in front of as many people as possible? By offering everyone's favorite characters in as many different forms that people want to consume and stay excited about the Marvel brand. So far, it seems to be working!

Reporter: Marty "McFly" Spears
Marty specializes in comics and sci-fi and can often times be found both playing the latest console game while reading the latest graphic novel. Not only is he a great multitaskertasker but he also enjoys sports and quoting 80's movies. Club Penguin Gets Marvel

If your family plays Club Penguin then you are most likely aware of the changes that will rock Penguin Island on April 25. I’m talking about the Marvel Super Hero Takeover (4/25-5/7) in which club members* are able to dress their penguins as 25 different Marvel characters, or mix and match costumes from heroes, villains, and their own ice-cold closet. For instance, Disco Robot Hulk was very popular last time Marvel took over the island, and this time around penguins will be hard-pressed to top it. The possibilities are endless.

VIDEO...  Marvel Super Hero Takeover 2013 - Official Trailer!   http://youtu.be/Cnx4cFwKniI

Needless to say, my boys are beside themselves with anticipation. Seriously, the Marvel Super Hero Takeover is all they talk about. Also, dessert.

It used to be, back in the day, that kids had their clubs and their penguins, what with the puffles and the igloos and the tipping of the iceberg, and then they had, in a totally separate space, their superheroes with the capes and the powers and the saving of the days. Clear lines were drawn between playthings, and the collective imagination of childhood respected those boundaries accordingly.

After all, a free-range imagination might find itself in all kinds of trouble. Creativity, as we were led to believe, was a dangerous thing in the wrong hands (flippers?), and therefore it was strictly frowned upon.

Then, in what has since been referred to as a moment of sheer clarity and brilliance, Club Penguin, much to the chagrin of the status quo, decided to let the kids play outside the box and invited its members to make their two worlds collide. It was like chocolate and peanut butter all over again, but with more capes.

As you might imagine, my boys are fans of worlds colliding, and the idea of dressing their penguins in spandex and denim is enough to make April 25 downright holidayesque. I’m thinking about putting up a penguin tree to mark the occasion.

“Being a superhero penguin is awesome,” said my oldest. “That means you can be a penguin that actually flies.”

*Club Penguin does not require a paid membership to play the game in a limited capacity; however, it is required to access a lot of the fun—including the Marvel Super Hero Takeover.
