Sea Turtles Return to the Sea at Disney's Vero Beach Resort (video)

Last Saturday morning, Disney's Vero Beach Resort guests connected with nature in a way that few people get to experience when they cheered on two giant, loggerhead sea turtles named for Disney characters -- who had laid their eggs on the beach the night before -- as they returned to the sea. The turtles were fitted with satellite transmitters and released near the resort as part of the Sea Turtle Conservancy's annual "Tour de Turtles," which follows the marathon migration of 11 sea turtles from their nesting beaches to their foraging grounds.

List of Foods / Wines for 2013 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival - Reservations for Events Aug 13th

Fans of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival know that it’s best to set their alarms and dial promptly at 7 a.m. August 13 if there is a premium event they want to attend. And this year there are even more new experiences, including a Parisian breakfast, a Scottish party and a Hibachi dinner in Japan.

Ready, Set, Dial!  Reservations for Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Premium Events Begin Aug. 13

The number to call? 1-800-WDW-FEST (939-3378). Dates for this year’s fest are September 27- November 11, and you can see the full list of options at www.epcotfoodfestival.com

We had a sneak peek at a few more of the dishes for this year’s Marketplace kiosks at this past weekend’s Tables in Wonderland dinner, including our favorite from Brazil: crispy pork belly with a dollop of pureed black beans and a fresh topping of sweet onions, avocado and cilantro micro-greens. The crowd went crazy for the South Korea marketplace’s kimchi hot dog with spicy mustard sauce and Florida Local’s grass-fed beef slider with Monterey Jack and sweet and hot pickles. Scotland’s seared Scottish salmon with cauliflower puree, watercress and malt vinaigrette, is served alongside a returning favorite, Canada’s Le Cellier wild mushroom beef filet mignon with truffle butter sauce. Oh my!

We tried a fantastic Brazilian black beer, sangria made with Florida citrus, and a bubbly Moscato from Brazil, all fun, unusual pairings – just a handful of the amazing finds that will be poured at the fest.

But the news that got the biggest applause is the return of the Dole Whip, a winner at this past spring’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. They’ll give it a different twist for all – it will be orange (not pineapple), and you can indulge with a splash of crème de cacao white.
Maybe you just enjoy strolling and noshing around World Showcase. Here’s a list of delicious creations you’ll find at the Marketplaces, all wonderfully paired with wine, beer and cocktails – subject to slight changes as chefs and sommeliers perfect the festival:

It's Important That Magic Touch In Your Portfolio Needs Right Now

Disney (NYSE: DIS) is entering into its ninth decade of existence, yet shows no signs of a slowdown. Disney started out as a modest cartoon studio and has morphed over the years into an entertainment powerhouse. Disney’s operations focus on the following three industry segments: media networks, parks and resorts, and consumer products. Disney is a strong buy due to its impressive leadership and powerful brands.

A little history…
Disney inked its first deal with M.J. Winkler on October 16, 1923 to produce Alice Comedies which is considered the start of Disney, as reported on its website (The Walt Disney Company). Disney's most iconic character, Mickey Mouse, debuted as a comic strip on January 13, 1930. I would argue one of the most important events, at least from an investor’s viewpoint, was April 2, 1940 when the company issued its first stock.

Why invest now as we approach new highs?
There are two characteristics that make Disney great: its strong leadership and its iconic brands. The top notch brands, by segment, are as follows:

The Entertainment portfolio
ABC – acquired on July 31, 1995, after the company's failed attempt to purchase NBC in 1994.
Disney – Do I have to mention Mickey? Just saying this word will put a smile on anyone's face.
ESPN – synonymous with sports and one of the most successful sports networks.
Lucasfilm – Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
Marvel – comic books and films, with characters such as Spider-Man, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and The Hulk.
Pixar – has produced 14 feature films earning the studio 27 Academy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, and eleven Grammy Awards.

Parks and Resorts
This segment of The Walt Disney Company owns and operates the following:

Walt Disney World (located in Florida), Disneyland (located in California), Disneyland Paris, and the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
Disney Vacation Clubs
Disney Cruise Line
Adventures by Disney

Consumer Products
This segment generates the majority of its revenue from the following three sources:

Licensing trade names and characters,
The Disney Store and the Disneystore.com and
Publishing children’s books, magazines, and comic books.

The competition (focusing on the entertainment portfolio)
Disney may be a powerhouse, but it is not free from competition. Amongst Disney’s entertainment portfolio, ABC may be the most significantly impacted by competition, facing fierce competitors such as CBS and NBC who often battle for its fan base.

In fact, in 2010, Disney considered a spin-off of the television network due to its lack of impact on the Disney brands as one analyst pointed out, "ABC doesn't add a lot of value to Disney's other divisions” (Reuters Article). Disney was in talks with a couple private equity firms, but the deals never materialized. As it stands today, ABC will remain with Disney for the foreseeable future. In order to keep its fan base and to win over critics ABC will need to produce more shows of high quality, such as its highly viewed television series Modern Family.

Marvel Comics' biggest competitor is DC Comics which is owned by Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) through Warner Bros. DC Comics is most known for Batman and Superman. Time Warner operates under four divisions: HBO, Turner Broadcasting Systems, Warner Bros, and Time.

HBO produces some of the best original series content including Game of Thrones and The Newsroom. The viewers agreed in 2012 as reported on HBO's website, "HBO was the #1 domestic premium pay television service in primetime and total day ratings in 2012." It is time for Disney to start learning from HBO as Time Warner has a leg up when comes to original content.

Pixar is the premiere animation company with feature films such as Toy Story, Cars, and Finding Nemo, just to name a few. However, this success does not come without challenges and its fair share of competition. DreamWorks Animation (NASDAQ: DWA) has been quite successful in its own right. DreamWorks is best known for Sherk, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar. The Sherk franchise is truly the pride and joy of the company with three of the films landing among the top 50 grossing films of all time. This a great accomplishment that all studios strive for, but few have been able to achieve. Pixar could take some notes from the green guy on creating some real green for the studio.

It is clear Disney dominates the competition in many areas, but there is still room for improvement. ABC should take some notes from HBO and improve its original content lineup. It is time for Disney to be humble and learn from the best in this area.

The leadership
Under the leadership of Bob Iger, Disney has been able to complete three key deals: the purchase of Pixar in 2006, Marvel entertainment in 2009, and Lucasfilm in 2012. Disney would not be the media giant it is today without the guidance of Bob Iger spearheading these acquisitions.

The bottom line
One true testament to Walt Disney’s leadership style is demonstrated by the creation of The Disney Institute . The Disney Institute strives to teach inspiring leaders everything from quality service, to brand loyalty, to innovation and business excellence. Disney has the magic touch when it comes to leadership and is willing to teach it to anyone, for a price.

If businesses can figure out how to build a culture of excellent client service and innovation, the people and profits will follow. This idea is stated best by Henry Ford: “A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large.” Disney is a strong buy as long as it continues to focus on its people while nurturing and expanding its impressive entertainment portfolio.

Disney and Weinstein Together for the 'Artemis Fowl' book Series into Film

Young adult fantasy book series "Artemis Fowl" about a 12-year-old millionaire criminal mastermind will be adapted into a feature film, Walt Disney Studios and the Weinstein Company said on Monday.

The film will cover the first two books in the series and be adapted by Michael Goldenberg, the screenwriter of the young adult book "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

A release date for the yet-to-be-titled film has not been announced.

The best-selling eight-volume series by Irish author Eoin Colfer was published between 2001 and 2012 and has sold more than 21 million copies worldwide.

The film also marks a renewed partnership between Disney and Weinstein Company founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein. Disney previously owned the Weinstein brothers' company Miramax Films until 2010.

The Weinstein brothers left Miramax in 2005 after a contentious relationship with Disney and that year founded the Weinstein Company, which is best known for its low-budget, critically acclaimed films, such as Oscar-winner "The King's Speech" in 2010.

"If you would have told me five years ago I would be producing a project with Disney I would have thought you were crazy," Harvey Weinstein said in a statement, adding that he was introduced to the "Artemis Fowl" books by actor Robert De Niro and film producer Jane Rosenthal.

Star Wars Celebration Europe 2013: John Williams to Score "Star Wars: Episode VII" (video)

It's true! As announced at this weekend's Star Wars Celebration Europe, the "oxygen" of the Star Wars film franchise, John Williams, will be returning to compose and score the next Star Wars film!

John Williams, the legendary composer who crafted the iconic, sweeping music of all six films in the Star Wars saga, is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced today at Star Wars Celebration Europe. Williams' grand orchestral compositions for Star Wars are among the most beloved and recognizable in movie history, from the classic "Main Title" theme introduced in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope to the ominous "Imperial March" from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back to the stirring "Duel of the Fates" from the prequel trilogy.

Williams, whose career spans over six decades, has won five Academy Awards and has scored some of the most popular and critically acclaimed films of all time, including Jaws, the Indiana Jones series, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Lincoln, and countless others. The composer joins a growing list of all-star creators including director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Michael Arndt, and consultants Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg, who are shaping Star Wars: Episode VII, currently set for a 2015 release.

Watch StarWars.com's new interview with Williams below, in which he discusses composing the music for Star Wars: Episode VII, working with Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams, and why he's excited about returning to a galaxy far, far away.

See Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in "Saving Mr. Banks" (trailer)

Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.

When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.

For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.

It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.

Disney presents “Saving Mr. Banks,” directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Alison Owen, Ian Collie and Philip Steuer, and written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Executive producers are Paul Trijbits, Andrew Mason, Troy Lum and Christine Langan.
