GMX 2013: Prolific voice actor and podcaster Rob Paulsen to attend

Born in Detroit, Rob Paulsen (robpaulsenlive.com) spent his childhood in Livonia and Rochester, attending Junior and Senior high school in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Rob loved cartoons like most kids but aspired to be a professional hockey player. “Fortunately, thanks to some big, strong, kid from Winnipeg who drilled me so hard my ears are still ringing, I learned around age 18 I had neither the talent nor the temperament to make a living playing hockey. So, I turned to my other passions: singing and acting.”

“The goal of bringing absolute believability to a fictional character, live-action or animated, is what every actor strives for. Those who are committed to their career and who combine experience, passion and skill are likely to succeed.”

Those gifted with exceptional talent who focus on maximizing their potential by finding their own niche, quickly break away from the pack. After years of honing their craft and consistently delivering memorable performances in which the character impacts an indelible image on the viewer, the public and the industry take notice, singling out the best. “I’m getting paid to do what I got in trouble for in the 7th grade,” jests Rob, who won a Daytime Emmy in 1999 as “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for Pinky and The Brain (Warner Bros.) Though nominated twice previously, the victory was especially sweet due to some formidable competition – fellow nominees Louie Anderson, Ernest Borgnine, Dennis Franz and Jeffery Tambor. In addition to his Emmy, Rob won back-to-back Annie Awards in 1997 and 1998. “I absolutely love what I do and thank my lucky stars for twenty-five years of full-time employment in this business,” he says.

“It’s a treat to portray a complex character,” Rob explains about Pinky, a goof-ball mouse with funny teeth, a head filled with clouds and an inane imagination that is punctuated with a staccato laugh. “Besides… where else could I find a job where emotional outbursts and odd exclamations like ‘Egad!,’ ‘Narf!,’ ‘Poit!,’ ‘plonk!,’ and ‘Zort!’ are allowed and in fact, encouraged?” With over 2,000 half-hours of animation to his credit, Rob’s versatility shines in his starring roles as the voices of Yakko, Pinky and Dr. Scratch ‘n’ Sniff in the Peabody and two-time Emmy award-winning series “Animaniacs.”

Some of Rob’s other well-known animated characters include Raphael of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Arthur in “The Tick,” the title role in “The Mask” (for a WHOLE lot less dough than Mr. Carrey, thank you), the title role in “Mighty Max,” Carl Wheezer in “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius,” Jack Fenton in “Danny Phantom,” Bobble in the “Tinkerbell” series of DVDs and hopefully more to come.

As passionate about “paying it forward” as he is about his lucrative career, Rob supports various charitable organizations, particularly those benefiting children and military veterans. Rob’s volunteer work with GOALmodels has been particularly rewarding. GOALmodels, a high school program in Reseda, California, is designed to inspire 9th graders to set goals and overcome obstacles in life. Blending his life experiences with passion for his work, his presentations are informative, entertaining and inspiring. In his leisure time, Rob enjoys golf, riding his motorcycle and occasionally lacing up his skates for another chance to relive his past glory on the rink. He spends the majority of his free time with his wife, Parrish, and their two Yorkshire terriers, Pooshie and Tala.

Merritt Patterson of Ravenswood
Merritt Patterson plays Olivia, a once carefree and effortlessly happy spirit, who has recently experienced hardship, leaving her questioning what's important and what no longer matters. Olivia is Luke's twin and first appears in the 2013 Pretty Little Liars Halloween special.

Born and raised in Whistler, British Columbia, Merritt Patterson took a liking to the Arts at a young age. Patterson started dancing competitively at age 11 and continued to compete throughout high school. During this time she was also active in theater as well as modeling, going on to win the 2006 “Canadian Herbal Essences’ Teen Model Search” out of 10,000 girls.

She made her Film and Television debut with a recurring role on the ABC Family show “Kyle XY.” Following this debut, the roles began flooding in and Merritt was cast in the FOX 2000 feature film “Percy Jackson: The Lighting Thief,” the horror thriller film “The Hole,” The CW series “Supernatural” and the Disney feature for Television “Radio Rebel.” Recently Merritt co-starred alongside Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) in the feature film “Rufus” set to be released in 2013.
Merritt has a slew of films set for release in the coming year. She will appear in the feature films “Primary,” “Kid Cannabis” with Ron Perlman, as well as in a starring role in “Wolves” with Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones).

She is currently starring as Olivia in the ABC Family series “Ravenswood.”

Christopher Daniels of TNA's IMPACT WRESTLING on Spike TV
Known as "The Fallen Angel," Christopher Daniels is one of the most accomplished Superstars in the history of IMPACT WRESTLING. The multi-time X Division and Tag Team Champion is one of the "Originals" who debuted with the organization in 2002. He has competed in some of the greatest matches in TNA history and has long been known to innovate and push the limits in the sport of wrestling.

When Daniels started with IMPACT WRESTLING, he was part of the faction “Triple X” until it disbanded, at which point he started a successful singles run in the X Division. He captured his first X Division Championship in an Ultimate X match and held the title for one of the longest X Division reigns in IMPACT WRESTLING history.

After a brief hiatus, Daniels is back to his old ways, now racking up more championships with Tag Team partner Kazarian. This villainous duo spent the better part of 2012 in a gruesome rivalry against AJ Styles. At Final Resolution 2012, Daniels defeated Styles in one final match, ending their feud. Who knows what the future holds for “The Fallen Angel”?

GMX 2013: Award-winning Star Wars author Timothy Zahn to attend

Renown Star Wars author and New York Times best seller, Timothy Zahn is set to meet fans and host a panel at the 2013 Geek Media Expo (GMX).

Timothy Zahn (facebook.com/TimothyZahn) is a writer of science fiction short stories and novels. His novella Cascade Point won the 1984 Hugo award. He is the author of eight Star Wars Expanded Universe novels, including six novels featuring Grand Admiral Thrawn: the Thrawn Trilogy, Hand of Thrawn duology, and Outbound Flight. The Thrawn trilogy marked a revival in the fortunes of the Star Wars franchise, bringing it widespread attention for the first time in years; all three Thrawn-trilogy novels made the New York Times best-seller lists, and set the stage and tone for most of the franchise’s Expanded-Universe content. While many of Zahn’s characters have been embraced by franchise writers and readers, some still appearing in novels written seventeen years later, Thrawn has been particularly influential and celebrated. Zahn also wrote the young adult Dragonback series, the Cobra series and the popular Conquerors’ Trilogy. 2013 marked the release of his most recent Star Wars title, Scoundrels.

See the first trailer for "Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier"

Check out the NEW trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on our YouTube channel!

The trailer contains a lot of footage seen at Disney's D23 Expo as well as San Diego Comic-con and then some!

But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

Lucasfilm Vault: George Lucas talks about Carrie Fisher

StarWars.com goes back into the Lucasfilm vault to bring yet another vintage clip of the maker talking about Carrie Fisher. All of these classic clips really help wet my appetite for Episode VII.

In this special featurette from the Lucasfilm vault, George Lucas talks about he came to cast Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in Star Wars. He was "looking for a princess who was young," around 16 or 17 years old, but who could also convey a sense of authority and hold her own with older, experienced actors. Lucas had seen thousands of potential actors, narrowed it down over the course of nine months, and finally selected Fisher.
