Disney's Star Wars Weekends expands to 5 weeks and promotes 'Rebels'

It was on this date back in February 21, 1997 Walt Disney World would host the very first 'Star Wars Weekends." Today Disney Parks announced that the now yearly event will expand to five weeks and has a new theme "Join the Rebellion." It seems the push is on to heavily promote the new 'Star Wars Rebels' animated series set to debut this fall on Disney XD. The new event dates are every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 16-June 15, 2014 at Disney Hollywood Studios.d

  • Weekend I: May 16 – 18, 2014
  • Weekend II: May 23 – 25, 2014
  • Weekend III: May 30 – June 1, 2014
  • Weekend IV: June 6 – 8, 2014
  • Weekend V: June 13 – 15, 2014

The official poster seen above depicts Jedi Mickey Mouse in an X-Wing fighter with his trusty astromech R2-MK being chased by Imperial TIE Fighters. Eagle eyed fans will also notice a Star Tours Starspeeder in the background as well. Could this mean that fans can expect an entirely NEW Star Tours scene? Although I don't expect a new scene it would be nice to have some updates to the attraction. After all Toy Story Mania did get new playable scenes after a nearly two years of being introduced.

Disney has also announced that James Arnold Taylor, voice of Obi Wan Kenobi from "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will return as host of the event. There will also be a new nightly fireworks show based on "Symphony in the Stars" and a Hollywood Boulevard experience will be offered.

No word on special guests or programming during the event. Please check back with JediMouseketeer.com for the latest news and coverage of the event.
