Know before you go... Acceptable Star Wars cosplay at movie theaters

Cosplay is more popular than ever. If you and your family and friends plan on wearing a Star Wars themed costume to see STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS this weekend there are a few tips you need to KNOW BEFORE YOU GO.

Due to heightened security concerns most theaters will ask moviegoers to abide by some common-sense rules:

  • Arrive at least 45 minutes before your movie start time.
  • Keep your masks and facepaint at home.
  • Leave your backpacks in the car.
  • Make sure your costume does not detract from other's film viewing.
  • Leave behind any toy guns.

Other theatres will not let you bring toy or replica Lightsabers as well as blasters as well. I've posted a few rules from theater chains below as well as a comprehensive list courtesy of our friends at FANDANGO.

AMC Theatres
AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience. Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks or face paint. In short, bring your lightsaber, turn it off during the movie, and leave the blaster and the Darth Vader mask at home.

Carmike
Carmike has no restrictions, however costumed guests may be subject to security searches.

Regal Theatres
REG does not allow admission to our locations for guests of any age wearing a mask, face paint or face-obscuring hoods; or possessing weapons, props or fake weapons.

Here is a LINK to the Star Wars costume policies for nearly every theater that works with Fandango.
