Disney announces release dates for Star Wars: Episode VIII and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The Walt Disney Company recently announced the release dates for two of the most anticipated films.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will now be released on December 15, 2017. Star Wars: Episode VIII, it will be written and directed by genius filmmaker Rian Johnson, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlin.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which was previously scheduled for July 7, 2017 will now be released May, 26, 2017 (taking the slot originally slated for Star Wars: Episode VIII). Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and sees the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner. Joining our established leads for this nautical go-around are Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, and Javier Bardem as the villainous Captain Salazar, a ghostly pirate.

Word has it that the change in dates is to avoid Star Wars competing with the release of James Cameron's Avatar 2.

Construction is now underway at the Disney Parks for both "Pandora: The World of Avatar" at Disney's Animal Kingdom and "Star Wars (Land)" at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
